Flint’s spring season kicks off with community events and activities

FLINT, Mich. — Spring has arrived, and Flint is buzzing with activity! From gardening workshops and volunteer clean-ups to arts and music festivals, here’s a roundup of events you won’t want to miss.

Tuesday, April 1, 2025

Edible Flint will host its annual meeting and seed swap from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the MSU Health Building, 200 E. First St. The meeting will review the organization’s 2024 impact as well as upcoming goals and events. A guest speaker will be featured before the seed swap. Register here.

The What’s Up Downtown Project will launch April in Wonderland, a 60-minute guided walking tour of Downtown Flint, on April 1 in Brush Park from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Lewis Carroll-inspired program is free and open to all ages. Tours will be offered on five dates: April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

Saturday, April 5

Flint Institute of Arts will host the First Bloom Fine Arts & Crafts Fair for two days: April 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person. The fair is located at the Flint Cultural Academy, 1200 Robert T. Longway Blvd., and will feature jewelry, garments, and accessories from about thirty artisans. 

Thursday, April 10

The University of Michigan-Flint’s Frances Willson Thompson Library is hosting a seed and cutting swap from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the library’s third floor. Attendees can trade or donate non-GMO and native seeds, as well as houseplant cuttings. Parking is available on the street and in nearby lots. The Seed Library is open to the public Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. There is a limit of 10 packs per season.

Friday, April 11

Friends of the Flint Public Library will host their Spring Book Sale on April 11 and 12. On Friday, the sale will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturday, it will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday will feature $5 bags. 

Saturday, April 12

Mott Park Neighborhood will host an Easter egg hunt at noon. Children and parents can meet at 2401 Nolen Drive. Candy donations and volunteers are welcome, for which community members can contact mottpark@gmail.com

West Court Street Church of God will lead a community clean-up on Flint’s west side from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will meet at 2920 W. Court St. 

Thursday, April 17

Queen’s Provisions and Flint Residents for Stronger Neighborhoods are partnering to host Flint Urbanist Happy Hour from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 421 Garland St. Residents are invited to have drinks and discuss how to make Flint a more walkable and welcoming city. 

Saturday, April 19

Flint Handmade and Creative Cafe are partnering to host an Easter Coloring Party + Art & Supply Closet Open House from noon to 2:30 p.m. at 3318 Corunna Road. The free event includes coloring supplies, board games, puzzles and other freebies. Creative Cafe menu items will be available for purchase.

The Stockton Center at Spring Grove will host its annual Easter egg hunt at Stockton House, 720 Ann Arbor St. The hunt begins at 12:30 p.m. and takes place outdoors. Families and individuals may purchase regular tours of the house after the egg hunt, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Friday, April 25

The Genesee Conservation District is hosting its annual Arbor Day tree planting event from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Broome Park. All ages are welcome for a hands-on learning experience. 

Saturday, April 26

Flint Handmade will host its 18th Annual Spring Craft Market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Flint Farmers’ Market. The free event will showcase more than 20 local artisans offering handmade goods. Guests can also enjoy live music by Erik McIntyre and Shannon Wade.

Saturday, May 3

The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and Genesee County Spartans will hold a Spring Volunteer Day, from 9 a.m. to noon, with check-in at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers will sort and pack food. Registration here

Sunday, May 4

The Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra concludes its 79th season with a spring concert featuring music from Wicked and Star Wars. The hour-long show begins at 3 p.m. Tickets available here.

Saturday, May 17

Edible Flint’s Garden Kit Distribution Day runs from 11a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Neighborhood Engagement Hub. Kits include transplants, compost, and seeds with raised beds available. Pre-orders open April 1, and EBT/Bridge Cards are accepted.
