Congressman Dan Kildee secures over $480k in funding for United Way of Genesee County

Flint, MI — Congressman Dan Kildee recently announced over $480,000 in federal funding for AmeriCorps to help United Way of Genesee County’s Flint Urban Safety and Health Corps program.

The $489,542 in federal grants will support 24 AmeriCorps members who will collaborate with the Flint Urban Safety and Health Corps program. The program aims to support the community’s long-term recovery by addressing blight removal and rehabilitation, food security and nutrition, and behavioral and developmental health.

The funding is projected to help connect residents to water crisis recovery resources, support community groups, and coordinate blight removal projects.

“We continue to be thankful for Congressman Kildee’s efforts to help us bring much needed resources to our community to help address both neighborhood safety and the health of Flint residents,” said Jamie Gaskin, CEO of United Way of Genesee County.

The United Way of Genesee County provides neighboring communities with essential resources in the Flint community.

“I’m grateful for the strong partnership between AmeriCorps and the United Way of Genesee County,” said Kildee. “In Congress, I will continue working to bring home investments that strengthen the community’s health and economy.”

Kildee recently pledged $2.3 million in federal funding to Hamilton Community Health Network so mid-Michigan families can access high-quality, affordable health care.
