FLINT, MI — Flint City Council and Mayor Karen Weaver’s administration both agree that damage claims should come before council before being paid out. But two resolutions for today’s committee meeting show the two bodies may not agree on how much.
Weaver’s administration is asking that damage claims come before council if they are $10,000 or more but council members also have a resolution in for $2,500 or more. The issue is slotted for the council’s March 13, 2016 Special Affairs Committee meeting at 4:30 p.m. at Flint City Hall located at 1101 Saginaw Street.
Council members questioned the city’s damage claim process after Flint City Councilman Eric Mays received a $4,500 damage claim settlement after he was removed from a 2016 special city council meeting. During that time, city officials said damage claims were not considered settlements and did not have to go before the city council.
The regularly scheduled Flint City Council meeting will follow. Agendas for both meetings are below.
