Flint Board of Education nominating petitions available for 2026 election

FLINT, Mich. — Nominating petitions are now available for residents interested in running for a seat on the Flint Board of Education.

The terms of three current board members, Joyce Ellis-McNeal, Terae King Jr. and Laura MacIntyre, are set to expire Dec. 31, 2026. Those seats will be on the ballot in the Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026 election.

Petitions can be picked up at the Flint City Clerk’s Office on the second floor of Flint City Hall, 1101 S. Saginaw St.

Potential school board candidates must either:

  • File nominating petitions with the Flint City Clerk by 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2026, containing at least 40 valid signatures and no more than 100 signatures, or
  • Pay a $100 nonrefundable filing fee in lieu of submitting petitions.

Additionally, candidates must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old, registered voters, residents of Michigan for at least 30 days, and residents of the Flint Public School District on or before the 30th day prior to the election.

The candidates elected in November will serve six-year terms expiring on Dec. 31, 2032.
