Flint resident gathers faith-based speakers and mental health experts
for a party full of purpose
FLINT, MICH. – Words of encouragement to keep Flint residents moving toward their destiny will come at no price on Saturday, August 3. The Second Annual Purpose Party: Overcoming Obstacles & Living in Purpose is free this year. Fun, networking, fellowship, inspiration, encouragement and replenishment only scratches the surface of that day’s agenda. The event takes place at Café Rhema (432 Saginaw Street, Flint, MI 48502) from 3 – 6 p.m. The venue is already full to capacity, with 50 people registered to attend.
Just like a butterfly’s evolving life, it is a desire for individuals to push toward their fulfillment. No matter where someone is on that journey, the Purpose Party will help them in their process of seeking answers. The event is designed to give a feeling of freedom to discuss life’s issues, away from stigma that may exist in traditional religious formats. Event organizer Marcie Len Hunter lines the day’s program with faith-based speakers and mental health experts, ready to help uplift spirits of those in attendance. People will take away an understanding that they are “living ON purpose, living IN purpose and living FOR a purpose.”
“Birthdays are more than turning another year older, but it’s about reflecting on fulfilling, or completing, your life’s purpose,” explains Hunter. “We all have a purpose that we are supposed to fulfill while we’re on this earth. We want to help people understand they have the tools to make an impact, achieve their dreams or overcome obstacles that stand in their way.”
The Second Annual Purpose Party features guests ready to share and answer questions about facing obstacles throughout life: speaker Shonta Price, Co-owner of Total Life Prosperity, LLC Sonyita Clemons, and Faces by Denise owner Denise Reeves. Special guests for the afternoon are Evangelist Brenecia Browning leading worship and psychotherapist Dr. Thomasine Wortham as the key speaker.
“This Purpose Party is about helping people find a forward focus. That’s what a life of purpose needs along with a resolve to press beyond opposition, and a willingness to move beyond the comfort zone,” says Dr. Wortham, CEO at Grace Counseling Services. “Discomfort, risks, and a decision to change are also requirements for moving toward living a purpose-filled life. You must confront every barrier to the fulfillment of your purpose with faith and a reliance of God’s grace!”
“When we commit to pursuing purpose, we also make a commitment to conquer obstacles,” explains Shonta Price. “Obstacles, cause us to become stronger, wiser, and overall better individuals. It is in the tough places, where growth, strength and the ability to endure are produced. Stay the course.”
This event is made possible through sponsorships by Daily Brew, Help2 Organization and K. Style Beauty Salon. During the event, donations are accepted. Proceeds from donations and sponsorships will benefit an organization whose mission surrounds suicide prevention and awareness.
Media is allowed to record at the venue between 3 and 3:45 p.m. Obtained audio and interviews of the speakers may be used, but audio of attendees sharing their stories is discouraged, unless they consent to an interview. Contact Jasmine Brown for additional information and to set up speaker interviews.
