Flint, MI— Flint Community Schools (FCS) has announced “A Taste of Literacy,” an interactive event aimed at engaging families in fostering literacy skills among children. The event will take place on March 6, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Flint Farmers’ Market.

The event aims to increase knowledge levels among parents and caregivers by providing them with effective strategies and activities to implement at home. By empowering families with the tools to become reading champions, FCS hopes to create a supportive environment for literacy development.

“We invite all parents and family members to join us in actively participating in their children’s education,” said Kevelin Jones, Superintendent of Flint Community Schools. “At ‘A Taste of Literacy,’ families will discover how they can contribute to their child’s learning journey and feel welcomed as valued partners in education.”

Everyone in attendance will receive raffle tickets, $15.00 worth of Farmers’ Market Bucks to enjoy dinner and dessert with select Farmers’ Market food vendors. Also, the first 500 attendees will receive complimentary Market Bucks.

There will be lots of fun, free books, a photo booth, surprise characters, and well-known presenters. From storytelling sessions to interactive games, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
