FLINT, Mich. — General Motors’ Flint-area plants have awarded $300,000 in community grants to nine nonprofits across Genesee County as part of the company’s ongoing investment in the region.
The funding is part of a broader series of grants that has totaled more than $7.5 million since 2019, according to a Dec. 10, 2025 press release from the company. GM’s Community Impact Grant program is aimed at addressing local needs in the communities where the company operates. The program supports initiatives aligned with GM’s corporate giving priorities, including STEAM education and road safety.
GM operates six plants in the Flint-Genesee region and employs more than 8,000 people. Local GM and UAW leaders jointly select grant recipients each year based on proposals that promote STEAM development, vehicle access and safe road behavior.
The 2025 General Motors Flint-area grant recipients are:
- Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint
- Communities First
- Factory Two
- Flint Children’s Museum
- Friends of the Flint River Watershed
- Jack and Jill of America Flint Chapter
- Kettering University
- Scouting America Michigan Crossroads Council
- United Way of Genesee County
“I love this program because it helps bring our communities together, it supports growth and learning and allows our team members to see the direct impact that their hands, minds and hearts have in the areas where we live and work,” said Theo Lavergne, General Motors Flint Assembly Plant Executive Director. “We recognize that local nonprofits can do their best work when they have support from local businesses and we’re thrilled to contribute to their amazing and tireless efforts.”
In 2025, Flint-area employees donated more than $224,000 and logged 10,500 volunteer hours for local causes through the GM Cares program.
