More recall language filed against Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley
Flint, MI – Seven new recall petitions were filed against Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley on Nov. 1, 2024.
This effort comes less than a month after the Genesee County Election Commission dismissed another attempt, filed in September, because the petitioner, Renita Robinson, was not a Flint resident.
The newest recall language, filed by Eddie Matten, reads as follows:
- Under Mayor Sheldon Andre Neeley, in a Scripps news article dated April 25, 2024 the Environmental Protection Agency warned it was not safe for any resident to drink water in Flint without special filters.
- Mayor Sheldon Andre Neeley announced the City of Flint would enter into a contract with STAT-EMS stating the partnership would bring Flint residents faster service and higher quality service.
- Flint Mayor Sheldon Andre Neeley was denied qualified immunity in [a] wrongful termination lawsuit filed by former Fire Chief Raymond Barton.
- Sheldon Andre Neeley received a check from Ashley Capital Political Committee in the amount of two thousand one hundred dollars.
- In a memorandum from [the] City of Flint Office of the Mayor, the City of Flint will pay the Flint City Gulf L.L.C. a monthly management fee of $6,000.00 a month for a not to exceed total of $72,000.00 upon receipt of the monthly receipts and invoice.
- Sheldon Andre Neeley stated in a Scripps news article on May 16, 2023 that deadlines were set and deadlines were missed, I admit to that.
- In a memorandum from the Office of the Mayor signed by Sheldon Andre Neeley the parties agreed (a) Flint City Gulf L.L.C. shall manage and operate the courses on behalf of the City of Flint during 2024.
The language submitted by Matten is the same as the Sept. 27 language filed by Robinson.
Flint Beat contacted Eddie Matten on Nov. 1, 2024 but he did not respond by press time.
“Recall attempts are unfortunately becoming common. Each of our last five mayors have faced recall attempts, but never before have we seen so much outside influence dividing our community. These attempts are a costly waste of taxpayer dollars and resources,” said Neeley in a Nov. 4, 2024 email.
The Genesee County Election Commission has not scheduled a meeting to consider whether the recall language is valid before moving forward with the process.
