North Flint Quarterly Safety Forum

Youth and Community Engagement

Oct. 30, 2019, (FLINT, MICH) – Hamilton Community Health Network (HCHN) and Illuminating Community Change (IC2) Project’s community partners, Flint Community Schools and Crim Fitness Foundation will be hosting the next quarterly community-led discussion on youth programming and community engagement. The public, residents, block clubs, and youth focused service providers are invited to attend the free North Flint Safety Forum on Thursday, November 14 from 5 – 8:00 p.m. at the new Flint Jr. High School Northwestern Campus (G-2138 W. Carpenter Road, Flint, MI 48505).

IC2 and representatives from the Community Education in Action teams will provide an evening of youth and family engagement to highlight the importance of engaging youth of north Flint in the community and out-of-school activities. Updates on efforts surrounding the movement of Illuminating Community Change in north Flint, including research, strategy and implementation of the grant-funded project will be shared with those in attendance.  Youth and young adults ages 15-24 may also learn about job training and employment readiness programs offered in the community. Plus, dinner will be provided for those who attend the forum.

“Crimes associated with unemployed youth and youth engaged in unsupervised activities are of great concern to the residents of north Flint,” explains IC2’s project manager, Sandra Johnson. “The work we are doing within the community will shine a light on the local ecosystem of organizations serving youth and collaborate with them to provide a sense of connectedness with school and community which will in turn lower rates of emotional distress, violent behavior, and substance abuse.”

HCHN is the recipient of a grant by the Community Foundation of Greater Flint’s Community Impact Fund. As a part of the north Flint Illuminating Community Change Safety Project, funds will be used to support the quarterly safety forum series that will improve safety through community engagement in north Flint.
