Report says Flint picked for funding to invest in healthy food projects

Two local grass roots organizations have been awarded funding to help continue their push to build grocery stores on Flint’s north side.

Fresh Start CDC, Inc and North Flint Reinvestment Corporation will receive $40,000 each from the Catalytic Investment Awards from Michigan Good Food Fund, according to a Nov. 18 Mlive.com article.

The program is a statewide loan fund aimed at increasing health food access in Michigan.

Local community leaders spearheading the grocery story projects say the funds will be used to help with the predevelopment plans for the two proposed stores.
