The Good Beans Cafe is set to throw its annual Woodstock festival

Flint, MI – The Good Beans Cafe will host its 21st annual one-day festival, Goodstock ‘24, on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024 from 3 to 9 p.m. at 328 N. Grand Traverse in Flint’s Carriage Town.

This year’s event will be headlined by a local ensemble called CANJA de BOA, a group of musicians from Flint and surrounding areas formed by Flint School of Performing Arts (FSPA) faculty member Kyle Canjar.

Other performances by local musicians include Mike Patton who will cover popular 1960s and 1980s songs, Flint Rocks Youth Empowerment Music Camp (FRYE) featuring first-time youth performers, and student performers from FSPA.

Ken Van Wagoner, owner of Good Beans, started Goodstock in 2003 with self-funding and help from volunteers after noticing a community demand for similar-style events.

“I opened in 2000 and not long into it I thought, I want to create more for the community. I was very much about culture and community and arts,” said Van Wagoner who unexpectedly eased into hosting local performers in the back anteroom of his cafe shortly after opening.

“I realized that the community’s hungry for this kind of thing. I didn’t anticipate being a venue, but I started thinking this would be the next sort of addition to what might be going on or what could be going on.”

While Good Beans will be open to the public, there will also be three food vendors at the event: Yvette’s Tacos, salads provided by the Local Grocer, and Paula’s Ice Cream Truck.

The festivities are family-friendly and free to the public due to a $5000 grant from the Greater Flint Art Council’s Parade of Festivals program, funded by the Mott Foundation.
