Flint, MI— Flint City Council is accepting applications for the 1st ward council seat following the death of longtime Flint City Councilman Eric Mays on Feb. 24. Mays was serving his third-term as a council member at the time of his passing.

According to a news release from the city clerk’s office, “council must appoint a new member within 30 days,” per Flint City Charter. In addition, “council shall schedule a primary election as soon as possible, to be followed by a special election to fill the office for the balance of the unexpired term. The person appointed by city council shall serve until the special election is held and a candidate certified as elected.”

Those who wish to apply for the vacant council position must be a registered voter, and resident of the 1st ward. Applicants should mail a resume, CV, biography, or letter of interest as “application” to:
