FLINT, Mich. — The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library executive director will step down from her role at the end of June, the library’s Board of Trustees announced in a press release.
Taliah Abdullah, who has served as executive director since 2023, will officially resign effective June 30, 2025.
Board President Reta Stanley praised Abdullah’s leadership and vision, calling her a driving force in the library’s efforts to become a more community-centered institution.
“Taliah’s vision of a welcoming and community-focused library has positioned us as a community hub, ready to meet Flint’s evolving needs for the coming years,” Stanley said. “We are grateful for her service and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
During her tenure, Abdullah led initiatives aimed at deepening the library’s connection with the Flint community. She launched new collaborations with local businesses and organizations, supported the creation of a library food pantry and community garden, and strengthened ties with Flint Community Schools.
Abdullah also prioritized literacy as a shared family experience, organizing book clubs, author visits, and “Build Your Home Library” events. She expanded professional development for staff to help them better meet the needs of library visitors.
“I am so very thankful to have been introduced to Flint through the library,” Abdullah said in a statement. “I am proud to have served with many who share an unwavering commitment to literacy, community, connection, and curiosity for lifelong learning.”
She also expressed gratitude to the community for its support: “The support that I have received from the community is invaluable. I thank you for your kindness, engagement, and ask for the continued support of the library.”
The library has not yet announced plans for selecting Abdullah’s successor.
