FLINT, Mich. — Less than two weeks after evicting the former nonprofit operator of the Hasselbring Senior Center, the City of Flint has filed another complaint against the vendor, alleging theft of multiple items from the facility.
The complaint, filed on March 3, 2025, in 7th Circuit Court, accuses the nonprofit of taking computers, audiovisual equipment and recreational items. In a same-day press release, the city detailed the alleged thefts.
“The theft of resources meant to serve our senior community is both disheartening and unacceptable,” stated Flint’s Chief of Staff Ed Taylor. “We are committed to seeking justice and ensuring that those who engage in such misconduct face the appropriate legal consequences.”
Additionally, the city plans to file a civil criminal complaint with law enforcement.
“The city’s accusations of theft and vandalism is their means for continuing their relentless harassment of our organization. All items taken from the Home Avenue location is property purchased in the organization’s name for the benefit of the seniors we serve,” Director of the nonprofit Beverly Lewis told Flint Beat in an emailed statement. “I/we have been and will continue to operate in truth and with integrity!”
