Flint, MI — City officials have announced that 3rd Ward Flint City Councilman Quincy Murphy has died.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear colleague Councilman Quincy Murphy,” read a Sept. 29, 2024 email statement from Flint City Council President Ladel Lewis. “We mourn alongside his family, friends, residents of the 3rd ward, and Flint as a whole. Councilman Murphy’s passion for Flint was unmatched. His dedication to blight elimination and community development is why the 3rd ward has thrived so much during his tenure.”

Murphy, a longtime Flint resident and community activist, came into office during the November 2022 election. According to city officials, he died on Sept. 29.

Prior to serving on Flint City Council, Murphy served youth on Flint’s north side with initiatives at Dewey Park including providing meals and summer programs for the community.
