FLINT, Mich. — Flint Beat will join Flint Daily, East Village Magazine, and Flintside for a community journalism salon on Thursday, Dec. 4, hosted by Gothic Funk Press at Queens Provisions (421 Garland St.). The event runs from 7–9 p.m. and invites Flint residents, writers, and supporters of local news to gather for conversation, wine, and charcuterie.
The salon is part of Gothic Funk Press’s ongoing series highlighting creative and civic work in Flint. This installment focuses on independent journalism — a field the organizers say now carries much of the responsibility for covering the city’s news and neighborhood stories.
Participating publications will offer brief introductions and read short excerpts during the event. After a break and raffle, the night will close with a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing independent newsrooms, including funding, community engagement, and reporting during periods of social unrest.
The event is open to the public and suggests a $10 donation to enter into a raffle. More information is available at gothicfunkpress.com/salon.
