Flint City Councilman faces allegations of domestic violence, assault

Flint City Councilman Leon El-Alamin has been charged with alleged assault and domestic violence.

According to Genesee County 67th District Court records, El-Alamin was charged with assault with the intent to do bodily harm less than murder and domestic violence for an alleged incident that took place in Mt. Morris Township, Mich., on July 10, 2025.

El-Alamin came into office initially in 2024 when Flint City Council members appointed him after the unexpected death of the late Flint Councilman Eric Mays. He later won his seat through election and is set to serve a partial term until Nov. 18, 2026.

On July 14, El-Alamin told Flint Beat that he is forwarding all comments to his attorney, but did say he is not guilty.

He is the founder and director of the M.A.D.E. Institute, a nonprofit organization that aims to provide transitional housing and comprehensive programming for at-risk youth and individuals returning from incarceration. El-Alamin also served on the City of Flint’s Housing Commission and as a member of the city’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Advisory Committee.

As of July 14, El-Alamin had not been arraigned.
