FLINT, Mich. — The Flint Fire Department has added a new fire engine and ambulance to its fleet, expanding its ability to respond to emergencies across the city.
The new fire engine, valued at $1.2 million, brings Flint’s fleet to five engines. The vehicle was purchased using funds from the city’s fleet budget, according to city officials.
The department also added a new ambulance, increasing its total to four. The $202,576 ambulance was purchased using funds from the national opioid settlement.
In a press statement, Flint Fire Chief Theron Wiggins said the additional vehicle will help expand the department’s emergency medical services.
“This now means we can have three ambulances running 24 hours a day, with a fourth ready as a backup when needed,” Wiggins said.
The new additions will help ensure firefighters and emergency medical crews have the equipment needed to protect residents.
