Flint Institute of Music announces full slate of upcoming performances

FLINT, Mich. — The Flint Institute of Music has announced a packed lineup of upcoming performances, bringing nationally recognized comedians, genre-bending musicians, orchestral favorites, youth showcases, and local talent to stages in the months ahead.

From comedy tours and country concerts at the FIM Capitol Theatre to educational programs and symphonic performances at the FIM Whiting Auditorium, the newly released schedule offers something for audiences of all ages.

National comedy, music, and touring acts

Several high-profile performances are headed to the FIM Capitol Theatre this spring, including #IMOMSOHARD: The Flashback Tour on Friday, April 17, followed by comedian George Lopez on Thursday, May 7, and Deray Davis on Friday, May 22. Country music fans can catch Randy Houser on Friday, May 29.

An exclusive FIM presale for these shows begins Thursday, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m. using the promo code FIM12926, with public ticket sales opening Friday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m.

Youth, education, and community-centered performances

The Flint School of Performing Arts will host Meet the Orchestra! on Friday, Jan. 30, at 12:30 p.m. at the FIM Whiting Auditorium, featuring the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra in a concert designed to introduce young audiences to orchestral instruments.

The school will also present its Faculty Concert Series with harpist Brittany DeYoung on Friday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. in the FIM MacArthur Recital Hall. The concert is free to attend with registration.

Theatre, tribute shows, and classical favorites

The Ghost Light Cabaret Series returns with Wonderful: A Tribute to Stevie Wonder, featuring hits like “Superstition” and “Living for the City,” on Wednesday, Feb. 4, with a rescheduled performance on Monday, Feb. 9, in the FIM Elgood Theatre Lobby.

The Flint Repertory Theatre will host its annual New Works Festival from Feb. 13–15, showcasing new plays by contemporary playwrights and composers.

Classical music highlights include Black Violin: Full Circle Tour on Friday, Feb. 13, and the Flint Symphony Orchestra’s American Frontiers concert on Saturday, Feb. 21, featuring works by Aaron Copland, William Grant Still, John Williams, and others.

Audiences can also experience Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark™ Live in Concert on Saturday, Feb. 28, with the film screened live alongside the Flint Symphony Orchestra performing John Williams’ score.

Flint Under the Stars spotlights local talent

FIM’s monthly Flint Under the Stars series continues with a donate-what-you-wish model supporting KidsTix. Upcoming shows include Local Flint Legends featuring Kinetic Stereokids and Billy O’Neill of Oh My God on Wednesday, Feb. 18, and an Alt-Punk night with Cult Therapy and FinalBossFight! on Wednesday, March 18.
