Flint, MICH. — Flint officials will host a public safety meeting on Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, at 2 p.m. in response to a recent string of violent incidents, according to an email sent to Flint Beat’s newsroom on the same day at 12:43 p.m.
Mayor Sheldon Neeley will be joined by leaders from Flint’s Public Safety and Public Health departments, the Mayor’s Youth Council and members of the local faith community.
The city said the meeting aims to “share updates, reaffirm its commitment to resident safety and call on the entire community to join in efforts to reduce gun violence and promote peace.”
“Our hearts are with the families impacted by violence in our city,” said Neeley. “We are deeply concerned about the poverty of values we are witnessing, and we remain focused on protecting lives, restoring peace, and empowering residents to take back their neighborhoods.”
Officials will provide updates on:
- The city’s “Clean & Safe Summer initiative”
- Ongoing law enforcement efforts and future strategies
- Youth engagement and community partnership initiatives

Flint remains under a Gun Violence Emergency, first declared in 2021. The Flint Police Department said it is actively pursuing leads related to recent incidents and encourages residents to come forward with any information.
