FLINT, Mich. — Despite some early challenges, Flint’s food box voucher program is moving forward.

The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan has confirmed a partnership with the City of Flint for a new food box voucher program aimed at helping qualified SNAP recipients and federal employees access essential food assistance, according to a Nov. 13, 2025 news release from the organization.

This comes after some residents initially reported difficulty redeeming their vouchers.

“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that every Flint resident has access to healthy food,” said Kara Ross, President and CEO of the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. “By working together with partners across our 22 county service area, we’re able to strengthen our response to community needs and make a meaningful impact for local families.”

How the program works

Qualified SNAP recipients and federal employees must first visit Flint City Hall and present valid identification to receive a food box voucher. Once obtained, vouchers can be redeemed at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan Outreach Facility, located in the former Northgate Building at 2211 Lapeer Road, Flint, Mich. 48503.

No distributions will take place at the Hunger Solution Center on Howard Avenue or at the Food Bank’s main facility at 2312 Lapeer Road.

Distribution dates and times

  • Friday, Nov. 14 — noon to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 18 — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 21 — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Food Bank officials said the program will prioritize accessibility and safety for residents during the distribution process.
