FLINT, Mich. — A former Flint City Councilman has been appointed to the Mott Community College (MCC) Board of Trustees.

MCC Board members approved the appointment of Santino Guerra during a special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025. His term runs through December 2026.

โ€œIt is truly an honor to be appointed to the Mott Community College Board of Trustees,โ€ said Guerra.ย  โ€œI look forward to working with the board to maintain a high-quality, accessible, and affordable education for all.โ€

Guerra currently works as a federal law enforcement officer and previously served as a deputy with the Genesee County Sheriffโ€™s Office. From 2017 to 2021, he represented Flintโ€™s Third Ward on City Council.

He is also active in community service, volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint and founding The Guerra Project, an initiative aimed at creating small, community-based projects for positive change.

Board Chairman Jeffrey Swanson said he was encouraged by the number of residents who applied for the trustee opening.

Guerra graduated from Kearsley High School and earned a bachelorโ€™s degree in criminal justice from the University of Michigan-Flint. He also completed the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Field Operations Academy in Brunswick, Georgia, and the Summer Venture in Management Program at Harvard Business School.
