FLINT, Mich. — After taking in 61 dogs at once, Genesee County Animal Control says its kennels are now full and is calling on the community to help make space.
The shelter will host an emergency pop-up dog adoption event on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its facility, located at 4351 W. Pasadena Ave.
“In one moment, our shelter changed,” the organization shared in a Facebook post on Feb. 18. “Space is gone. Our kennels are full.”
While the 61 newly arrived dogs will need time and placement, shelter officials say there are already dogs in their care who are ready for adoption. Moving those animals into permanent homes will help create space and resources for the new arrivals.
During the event, dog adoption fees will be reduced to $10. Genesee County residents will also need to pay a $10 license fee. Adoptions are open to individuals from any county or state.
Animal Control is encouraging residents who have been considering adding a pet to their family to visit during the event. Even those who are unable to adopt can help by spreading the word.
