FLINT, Mich. — A new grant aims to help expand property tax exemption assistance and bolster foreclosure prevention efforts at the Genesee County Treasurerโs Office.
Rocket Community Fund awarded the Treasurerโs Office a one-year, $100,000 grant to expand property tax exemption outreach and connect eligible homeowners with foreclosure prevention support.
โFor over a decade, Rocket Community Fund has been committed to preventing tax foreclosure and keeping at-risk families in their homes,โ said Laura Grannemann, Executive Director at Rocket Community Fund. โThese investments are the first steps to expanding that focus statewide to ensure that all Michiganders have access to stable housing and the prosperity that comes with it.โ
Genesee County Treasurer Sam Muma said the funding will help the Treasurerโs Office reach residents who may be unaware that help is available and those who need assistance navigating the process.
โWeโre grateful toย ‘Rocket Community Fund’ย forย this investment in our community,โ Muma said. โThis grant helps us meet people where they are by recognizing the challenges that many of our residents face. When we bring assistance directly to the community, we can help more homeowners stay in their homes, stabilize families, and strengthen neighborhoods.
Since 2013, Rocket Community Fund has worked to prevent property tax foreclosures in Detroit, helping cut Wayne County foreclosures by 93% through outreach programs that connect residents with exemption resources and support.
