FLINT, Mich. — An area school district aims to spark entrepreneurial thinking among high school students through an innovative course.
The Genesee Intermediate School District is preparing to host its next Ideation Crash Course event as part of its Youth Entrepreneurship Program.
The annual session gives high school students from across Genesee County the chance to learn from business industry experts and collaborate with peers as they develop new business ideas.
Throughout the day, students will participate in a series of โStorm Sessionsโ designed to challenge their imagination, creativity and problem-solving skills. The sessions introduce students to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship while encouraging them to refine their mindset and generate fresh business concepts.
โOur hope is for students to leave feeling energized, connected, and confident in their ability to think creatively,โ said Kimberly Dehmel, Youth Entrepreneurship Coordinator at Genesee Intermediate School District. โThis event gives them the space to explore bold ideas and discover whatโs possible.โ
The Ideation Crash Course will take place Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Genesee Career Institute, 5081 Torrey Road.
Youth Entrepreneurship is a growing initiative in Genesee County supported by a grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. The grant has helped establish YE clubs at local high schools across the county and train club advisors. The program will culminate in a countywide pitch competition.
Students interested in attending the Ideation Crash Course should contact their high school YE coordinator. For more information about the program, email kdehmel@geneseeisd.org.
