FLINT, Mich. — A local initiative is helping students explore college options that celebrate Black culture, community and academic excellence.
The Floyd and Brenda Clack (FBC) Initiative will host its fourth annual Flint to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Forum from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the International Academy of Flint.
Organizers say the goal is to boost college readiness and raise awareness of institutions that have historically served Black communities across the country.
The event will be co-hosted by FBC founder and Hampton University senior Hailee Clack and Morehouse College junior Antonio Sweeney. It will feature two panel discussions — one with current HBCU students and alumni sharing personal experiences, and another addressing national education policy and threats to diversity, equity and inclusion. Panelists include Dr. Pamela Pugh, former U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, Edmund Graham and Julianna Boye.
The free event will also include youth program resources, giveaways from community partners and complimentary food.
