FLINT, Mich. โ Nominating petitions for Flint mayor and Flint City Council are now available for those interested in running for the cityโs top elected seats.
According to a Dec. 30, 2025 press release from the City Clerkโs Office, the deadline to file completed nominating petitions isย Tuesday, April 21, 2026, by 4 p.m. Late filings will not be accepted.
Petitions can be picked up at theย City Clerkโs Office on the second floor of Flint City Hall, located atย 1101 S. Saginaw St.ย The office is openย Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Under the Flint City Charter, candidates for elective office must be registered voters in the city of Flint for at leastย one year prior to the filing deadlineย for the office they seek. Candidates must also reside in the ward they intend to represent and maintain that residency through the duration of their term.
Prospective city council candidates are required to submit nominating petitions signed by at leastย 75 registered Flint votersย who live in the ward the candidate would represent. Candidates running for mayor must submit petitions signed by at leastย 600 registered votersย of the city of Flint.
The terms of office for the mayor and city council members elected in the 2026 election will run fromย November 2026 through November 2030.
