Mundy Twp., MI — A manufacturing project has received additional support from local stakeholders who are invested in the potential of the Advanced Manufacturing District (AMD) of Genesee County, Mich.
According to a press release issued by Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance, those supporting the work to attract a company to the site in Mundy Township includes Siwek Construction, International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) Local 2 of Michigan, UA Local 370 Plumbers and Pipefitters, Genesee, Lapeer and Shiawassee Building Trades Council, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 948, and Sheet Metal Workers Local 4.
“We’re thrilled to join more than 30 businesses, organizations, and community stakeholders in supporting this amazing economic development project that will create local, good-paying jobs,” said Bryce Moe, president of Siwek Construction.
The Flint and Genesee Economic Alliance, a division of the Flint and Genesee Group, recently received nearly $260 million in state grants to purchase land needed to fill out the 1,000-acre site.
Gregory Remington, business manager and financial secretary for IBEW Local 948, grew up near the site in Mundy Township and has been working in the electrical industry for more than 30 years.
“We need a project that creates good-paying working-class jobs in Genesee County,” Remington said. “Being home to a new advanced manufacturer is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our electrician members and our entire region that will see additional revenue and opportunities for local small businesses.”
