Flint, MI — Eighth Ward Flint City Councilman Dennis Pfeiffer is the subject of two recall petitions seeking his removal from office.

“As current law states any one person can file a recall. It’s impossible to satisfy all 12,000+ constituents, but I will continue to work for the residents as they elected me to,” Pfeiffer told Flint Beat in an April 10, 2024, email. “The resident that filed this recall has never contacted me to address any of their concerns.”

The Genesee County Board of Elections is scheduled to meet on April 18, 2024, to consider the petitions. The petition circulator must collect enough valid signatures to kick off the recall process if approved.

Both recall petitions were filed on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

One of the petitions filed states the reason for the recall is “unprofessional behavior in council, bullying, posting inappropriate and homophobic content online, impeding City Council business, and failing to represent 8th Ward residents in a professional and effective manner.”

The other petition seeks to recall Pfeiffer because he was censured on March 25, 2024, for conduct unbecoming of a council member.

Previously, recall petition language against Pfeiffer was approved by the Genesee County Election Commission in July 2023, but he appealed the decision in August 2023.

There are also active recalls against City Council President Ladel Lewis and 3rd Ward Councilman Quincy Murphy.

The commission approved recall language against Lewis on April 1, 2024, for voting to allocate American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for city revenue replacement.

In February 2024, the commission approved two petitions against Murphy. One states that he voted to allocate ARPA funding for revenue replacement, and the other states that Murphy accepted a lawn mower valued at $11,000 from the CEO of Ashley Capital and subsequently voted to approve a Brownfield Plan for the company. Ashley Capital is currently redeveloping the old Buick City site in Flint.
