TeenQuest registration deadline nears for Flint youth

FLINT, Mich. — Genesee County high school students still have one more chance to enroll in TeenQuest, a free career readiness and leadership training program that prepares teens for summer employment through the Summer Youth Initiative (SYI).

The final session of TeenQuest begins Monday, April 14, 2025 and will be offered in person at New Standard Academy and Carman-Ainsworth High School, as well as online.

“This year, we added a fifth session to give as many students as possible the opportunity to participate in the SYI Job Fair,” said Brianna Mosier, executive director of Flint & Genesee Education & Talent, a division of the Flint & Genesee Group. “SYI is a great way to gain on-the-job experience and put what students learn in TeenQuest to the test.

To qualify for the SYI Job Fair, students must complete TeenQuest, which is open to Genesee County students ages 14 to 19 in grades 9–12.

This year, 27 for-profit and nonprofit organizations are participating in the Summer Youth Initiative, including four new employers: Flint Housing Commission, Latinx Technology & Community Center, Miller Industries, and New Standard Academy.

Eligible students who have completed TeenQuest will receive an SYI application link via email. Students who have not received their application can update their contact information on the Flint & Genesee Education & Talent website to have it resent.

Those who have not yet completed TeenQuest can register for the final session through the TeenQuest section of the website.
