Flint officials announce cooling stations ahead of heat wave

FLINT — The city has partnered with community organizations throughout Flint in an effort to protect as many residents as possible as temperatures rise over the weekend. 

“Dealing with high humidity and heat, we know not everyone has AC and that’s why it’s important the city step up and have centers throughout the city,” said City of Flint  Public Health Manager, Shebra Ward during a June 20, 2025, press conference.

Hot temperatures are expected to begin Saturday, June 21, with highs above 90 degrees and continue through Tuesday, June 24, according to forecast.

Ward is asking residents to try to refrain from going outside as temperatures rise, use sunscreen and drink water.

“You can easily get dizzy, pass out, [or have] heat stroke. So if you are not properly hydrating, we encourage you to do that…water is going to be your friend over the next couple of days.”  

Seven locations throughout the city have been identified as cooling centers, including local churches and community centers.

“We want to ensure we’re doing everything possible. So, we will have health navigators throughout the city at the locations providing you with assistance,” said Ward.
